INTERVIEW W/ VS

The young gun himself @steveisdope used his Boston connection to bring you an exclusive Start It Up interview with rapper, VS. The Bostonian talks about who he be, his top 3 hip-hop draft picks, and much more. Check out the full interview along with a video after the jump.

1. Fuck one, Kill one, Marry one – Snooki, Deena, Sam
I dont care for the cast of Jersey Shore at all, next question lol.

2. Defining Moments Pack and the In fared VI’s Pack drop at two different stores on the same day.
Hands down I would go to the store that had the Defining Moments pack. A pair of Jordan 11's and 6's..come on! And plus what the meaning behind the sneaker meant a lot to Jordan in his career. The only thing I liked about the In fared pack was the box. Besides that I had both those VI's when they first released in 91...Thanks mom. The defining moments package are one of a kind. Plus the value of them now and in the future will just keep going up.

3. You can only have 5 artists other than yourself on your ipod who would you listen too?
Tough question...I would pick The Roots, greatest hip hop band in my opinion plus they have an extensive amount of music to listen to. A Tribe Called Quest cause they were a sick crew! Have some Maxwell in there just to set the mood for certain occasions. Masters At Work (Kenny Dope and Louie Vega) greatest House dj duo in history...I've been a house head before I even knew how to rhyme. And the fifth would be Hector Lavoe just to keep me reminded of my roots.

4. Who you be? (what 3 things should every listener know about you)
Listeners should know 1.) I have a High School and college degree, Bachelors in Business Management. Stay in school kids! 2.) I'm heavy into Fashion, I have worked at some of the finest retail shops in the states, and can appreciate well made clothing. and 3.) my favorite alcoholic drink is Jake Daniels and Coke.

5. What’s your favorite verse you ever spit? I like all my verses, but I guess one that I always feel good about is on a track called "99 Ways" featuring my boy Sondu. Everything about it is so real, it might not be my most technical as far as word play, but I just like the overall feel. Here's a few bars for you: "See this is what I do on my usual day/ work early in the morning for some suitable pay/seems like my life is fine, just cruising away/ but theirs more parts to this I decided to say/so many thoughts circling my brain/ I swear graffiti wrote the pathway that circles my frame/ that's how I maintain/keep elements in vein/ God gave us a way to explain/ so I use notebooks to label my pain..."

6. StartItUp’s holding a hip hop draft.. you have 3 picks, who you taking and why?
For my team I would choose Lupe Fiasco, Nas, and Black Thought. Do I really need to explain why! I mean come on all 3 are lyrical geniuses. They can give you a song about love, politics, current events, the streets...just about anything and make it sound good. And all 3 truly appreciate the Hip Hop culture...even if Nas said Hip Hop is Dead, he said for a reason during that time...it was a chess move word to Bobby Fischer.

7. More heartbreaking game 7 loss… red sox vs. Yankees 03 ALCS or Celtics vs. lakers 2010 finals...
I can clearly remember both. You are refreshing memories that many Boston fans do not want to retrace. For me personally The Celtics lose to the Lakers in 2010 hurt me the most just cause i am a true fan of the Celtics and I must have watched all the entire season of games leading up to the championship. The Celtics had a huge lead in the first half, and lost it in the second half....kept it close all the way but in the end, The Fakers got the W. There is always this year. What up Ray Allen!

8. What can we expect from VS in the future?
I'm currently working on putting out a few more mixtapes for free download, and in between that I'm working on putting together an album. Look out for some videos to correspond with the mixtapes and alot of live shows. More than likely I will be working with Da Musiqq as far as production and engineer wise. Also J.Cardim and other producers. Not sure about who will be my musical features but I assure you, neither I or they will disappoint you. I'm going to keep continuing to give you music that matters.

9. Describe the Boston hip hop scene and how you, as an artist, impact it.
Its great. We have some wonderful acts out here, from people like Termanology, Akrobatic, Edo-G , to Geyez, Smoke Bulga and myself and many more. Everyone here knows that the only way we can make it is to unite, let our egos go and support each others music. There is so much talent here we just need to come together and create together. I'm just a regular guy in a city of talent.
